Just Smart Enough Design

Philosophy

The idea behind “Just Smart Enough” was born at a product development conference at MIT when I was pursuing my Masters degrees across the river at Boston University. One of the attendants was describing a project to re-imagine agricultural equipment, and was bemoaning how the customers didn’t have the vision to understand what they were trying to do. That’s when I realized that innovation needs to be matched to the end customer’s needs; that there is such a thing as “too smart” in the world of design, and pushing that on the customer is to nobody’s benefit.

Thus, I like to think that we are just smart enough to deliver what the customer needs, and not so smart that we don’t need to be resourceful.
